A 14,000 sf extensive green roof on top of the Fashion Institute of Technology cools the building and cleans the water and air around it. This vegetated roof absorbs stormwater and air pollutants. The green roof absorbs about 5400 lbs of particulate matter (CO2) each year, which is equal to removing 203 commuter cars from the road driving an average of 12,500 miles per year. The green roof means that HVAC air entering the building will be significantly cleaner and the building will be cooler saving energy and money. And, this large green roof markedly improves the view from surrounding highrises.
A 20,000 hybrid intensive/extensive green roof on a new-construction residential complex. Intensive Gardens were built up, and the extensive green roof sections were laid with pre-vegetated trays. RiversEdge at Port Imperial is located across the Hudson River in Weehawken, New Jersey, so the green roof overlooks the Manhattan skyline. The project is just steps from the NY Waterway Ferry Terminal and Light Rail.
This is the 5th largest green roof in New York City. The Regis High School’s green roof system is 25,000 sf featuring native plant types and varying soil depths. The green roof is a learning laboratory with a weather station, stargazing platform, stormwater monitoring by Columbia University, beehives, and solar panels. This roof has no irrigation.
Greensulate designed a 2,000 sf Hybrid Built-Up Green Roof System for this private Hudson Street penthouse. A flower garden with access from the kitchen offers natural views and fresh herbs. Rainwater harvesting barrels provide water for irrigation. The private roof deck and garden create a beautiful entertainment environment and maximize property values.
We collaborated with GrowNYC on the first iteration of the indoor agriculture installation, featuring a patented hydroponic vertical farming system designed and developed by Adrian Wilton.
Greensulate designed and installed this irrigated 2000 sf rooftop food garden to grow food for New York City’s homeless.
This 13,000 sf Extensive Green Roof allows for over 7,000 sq ft of rooftop farm space to be used for the production of edibles. The Living Roof and Greensulate work with New York Cares to continuously utilize this space for volunteer and learning opportunities. We works with volunteers, educational institutions and other interested parties to oversee the maintenance and development of the planting areas.
