Customer Testimonial
Read the testimonial below from a very happy client in lower Manhattan (Green Roof pictured below) who's enjoyed (along with a happy dog) her Green Roof for nearly a year now.
It has been suggested that there is no such thing as a weed; it's just a plant that is growing in the wrong place. One could reasonably argue that all of the plants on my rooftop, six stories up in downtown Manhattan, are growing in the wrong place, but thanks to the knowledge and enthusiasm of people like Amy Norquist, attitudes about such things are rapidly changing.
Green Roofs, living walls and even mini-farms are starting to crop up in cities all over the world. Score one for the weeds. You can read all about the many (many) environmental benefits of Green Roofs on the Greensulate website and all over the web. (The details of why and how they work are better left to the experts.) Less publicized, perhaps, is the sheer joy you get from hosting this improbable little ecosystem.
My own Green Roof took more than a year of planning including lobbying the board of my building for approval but finally less than two days to install and plant in the fall of 2008 and Greensulate gracefully navigated the entire process. Within hours of the installation, big furry bees appeared, attracted to the lavender and salvia. In the spring I saw the first butterfly. And last summer, an amazing thing happened: crickets arrived!
